Best of the East Village
Location: 275 East 7th Street
Size: 3BR, 2BA duplex co-op
Price: $1,995,000 ($730 maint.)
Pitch: "Spectacular architect designed duplex in a non-elevator townhouse on one of the best tree lined blocks in the East Village."
The housing stock in the East Village frequently gets knocked—the 'hood being a land of tenements for youngsters, and all—so we decided to do an inventory check by looking at the cream of the crop, the best of the best, the top of the heap. And by all that, we of course mean the most expensive. Sure enough, there are some surprises out there this weekend. Like that the open house for the most expensive property, seen above, is near Avenue D. Or the older broker who is clearly shooting for a mature crowd by making the open house appointment only and saying the apartment is "on the periphery" of the East Village. And, most interesting of all, is the penthouse in the ancient Kiehl's building, but unfortch it's not the wooden house that's on top.
