Senator Gillibrand Has New York Home On The Market

SENATOR Kirsten E. Gillibrand of New York, who filled the seat vacated by Hillary Rodham Clinton when she became secretary of state, is running for a full term in a special election next month against Joseph J. DioGuardi, a Republican and former congressman. And perhaps anticipating an extended stay in Washington, Ms. Gillibrand, a Democrat, has been trying to sell her five-bedroom home on 13 acres in Hudson, N.Y.

The current list price of $1.48 million is down from the original asking price of $1.71 million in April, when the house went on the market.

Ms. Gillibrand, 43, and her husband, Jonathan, moved to a second home in Washington in 2007, after she was elected to the House of Representatives. They continued to spend time in Hudson, though, and the senator’s online biography still notes that the couple live in Hudson, with their sons, 6 and 2.

Now, though, the Gillibrands are spending most of their time at their home in Washington, although they declined to comment on the sale of the nine-room Hudson home, which has four and a half bathrooms, a barn and a four-car garage, and is about two hours’ drive from New York City. Perched on a hill near the Rip Van Winkle Bridge, it is surrounded by working farms.

The co-brokers on the listing, Robin Horowitz and Nancy Felcetto of the Hudson Valley office of Halstead Property, also declined to comment.

Correction: October 28, 2010

An earlier version of this article misstated Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand's age. She is 43, not 42.
