Having grown up hearing about real estate from his grandmother, father and uncle, it's no surprise that Charles D. Urstadt has wound up in the thick of the business. While Charlie was exposed to all facets of the business from a young age, it was in residential brokerage where he found his calling.
After graduating from New York University, Charlie began his real estate career as a managing agent with Sulzberger-Rolfe, Inc. He then joined Pearce, Urstadt, Mayer & Greer, Inc, a national real estate brokerage company with offices in 10 cities. Starting in the commercial sales and mortgage division, he eventually became responsible for the firm's 30-agent Manhattan residential sales division.
When that company was sold in 1989, Charlie joined Brown Harris Stevens, where he thrived as a residential sales broker. In 1997, when the firm decided to open a new office on Manhattan's West Side, they turned to Charlie to create and lead it. Soon, the office grew to over 45 agents and became one of the West Side's hottest real estate offices.
His success caught the attention of the owners of Terra Holdings (parent company of Halstead Property, LLC) and Halstead's president Diane M.Ramirez - who asked Charlie to head up the company's prestigious East Side office. The 125 agent operation is the flagship office of Halstead Property.
"Working with Diane and the wonderful agents of Halstead Property's East Side office is an honor that I'll be forever grateful for," Charlie said. "Whether it's helping on a complicated transaction or just offering some words of encouragement, it's my job to be there for Halstead Property's buyers, sellers and agents 24 hours a day. And I love every minute of it."
In addition to extensive work with the Real Estate Board of New York and serving on several co-op boards, Charlie has been a member of the board of directors of the Friends of Channel 13, the New York State Board for Historic Preservation and the Preservation League of New York. He currently is a director of Urstadt Biddle Properties, Inc., a real estate investment trust.
