Mary-Jean has been a trusted advisor to many seeking her advice on renting and purchasing homes in and around the New York City area. A Brooklynite since 1988, Mary-Jean immediately knew she wanted to be part of the energy, community, and diversity that Brooklyn offers. Her passion for real estate became her personal success, owning a large co-op in historical Carroll Gardens, followed by the purchase and renovation of a two-family brownstone in the same community.
Mary-Jean has the extraordinary ability of connecting people to others and the natural ability to understand individual needs. As a small business owner, interior designer, adoption consultant, and trained social worker, Mary-Jean has built her career around providing people with the opportunity to fulfill their dreams and desires.
Mary-Jean, her family, and rescued Siberian Husky named Lola live in a turn-of-the-century limestone in Brooklyn which she and her husband fully (and painstakingly) restored and renovated. A passionate animal rescue advocate, Mary-Jean donates a percentage of each closed real estate transaction to local animal rescue groups.
Guest Panel Speaker for REBNY: Mary-Jean discussed how to gain buyer loyalty at the 2018 Free-for-Members Residential Brokerage Breakfast Club. Mary-Jean emphasized getting to know your client on a personal level. Attendees left with many tips on how to hone their soft skills to create a solid relationship with any buyer.
“If I have not expressed this before, I truly appreciate working with you. It is not just about being a knowledgeable agent—it is so important to be ethical, empathetic, and trustworthy. You certainly have all those traits.” – Kim B."Your support through this process of purchasing an apartment has been terrific. You're like a ray of sunshine and always on top of it professionally. I'm very grateful. I feel lucky that you were my broker and look forward to staying in touch." – Ellen"It was such a pleasure working with you from start to finish. You’re a real professional and also manage to be a friend/guiding voice to your clients—hard to come by I think! I will recommend you to all of my up and coming homebuyer friends and acquaintances." – C & A"A big THANK YOU for all your hard work during our sale. There was a lot wrapped up in this: a few bumps along the way, some last-minute chaos, and of course all the emotion from selling the home where the kids grew up. We could not have asked for a more amazing effort to guide us through this process and keep everything moving.....so thank you!" – N & K“Mary-Jean at Halstead helped us with both the sale of our apartment, and with the purchase of our house. Of all the realtors we’ve dealt with over the years (not only with the actual transactions, but also going to look at literally hundreds of houses), Mary-Jean was by far the most professional, knowledgeable, and helpful we’ve had the pleasure to deal with. She never pushed us into anything we didn’t have an interest in, and always went out of her way to find every bit of information (good and bad) about properties we were interested in. The purchase of this house was particularly challenging, as the house was part of a legal dispute, but Mary-Jean was always patient, insightful, and ready with great advice when we sought it out; she guided us through a very complicated transaction in good spirits, and as efficiently as was possible under the circumstances. If we are ever crazy enough to enter the New York City real estate market again, she will be our agent of choice.” - E & S"I never really needed a realtor until I sold my house after 37 years, the hardest thing I ever had to do. I met Mary-Jean on the streets of Bay Ridge, where we started talking about her dog. One thing lead to another and I find out she was one of the new people on the block AND she was a realtor. To make a long story short, people run into other people in crazy ways, as if they know what you need. We made an appointment to meet and the rest is history. Mary-Jean explained home selling from A to Z and made me feel very comfortable as I was selling my house as a single person. Decisions needed to be made well, so I put my confidence in her knowledge and went full steam ahead. My home reached boundaries I did not know existed, receiving a lot of exposure in the realty world. If I have to do it again, Mary-Jean and Halstead would be the realtor for me. So, if you are thinking or ready to move, she is your go-to realtor." - Barbara M.Thank you SO MUCH for all of your hard work! I really felt that I was in the best hands from start to finish. Thank you for all of your help. And thank you for the thoughtful card and gift.” – Ivy K."I am so thankful to have you as my agent. I enjoyed looking for the perfect apartment with you and am forever grateful for your patience and support throughout the process. As a first time home buyer, I was terrified of taking the leap and of course of making the wrong decision and your ability to listen to me and help me work through my anxieties and determine what I wanted and needed in my first home. I appreciate that you took me to so many different types of apartments in different areas in a short amount of time as seeing so many helped me to understand what was truly important to me and of course the reality of what I could afford! Thank you for helping me find the perfect apartment on the park! I am looking forward to waking up to the park every day! I will be referring you to all my friends and family because of your excellent service. You are a Rock Star!" - Malika R"Thank you so much for your help in getting us our dream home! After seeing dozens of over-priced apartments and meeting a few difficult brokers in the area, we were thrilled to finally work with you. By the time we met you, we were desperate to find a place and you were expeditious, professional and incredibly helpful throughout. You made the entire process so easy that we were able to sign a lease within a week! We are so grateful and look forward to working with you in the future.” - Eleanor B."It was a pleasure working with you through the home buying process. From Errol and I, thank you for all of your help and hard work! Errol and I are super excited to start the journey of being homeowners." – Dupe & Errol"I'm immensely and forever grateful to you for all the time and effort you put into helping me to find the right place. Please know that my gratitude is profound." - Bill W.
